Night Fighting Equipment Replacement
LAND 53 Phase 1BR
This project is replacing land-based night vision equipment and laser aiming devices that attach to specified ADF weapons. The equipment is being progressively delivered over the period 2017 to 2023 in two tranches.
Tranche 1 is the acquisition of military off the shelf equipment to enhance night-fighting capability including improved ergonomics performance and reduced weight.
Following an open request for tender in 2016, acquisition and support contracts for Tranche 1 were signed on 29 September 2016 with L3 Communications (Oceania).
In 2017, the first delivery of equipment will be to Army’s 1st Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment in Townsville and the School of Infantry in Singleton for Operational Testing and Evaluation of the night fighting equipment, accessories and the support system.
Tranche 2 will examine the next generation of night fighting equipment and return to Government for consideration in FY 2019-20.
Final Materiel Release is scheduled for March 2023, with Final Operational Capability to be declared in September 2023.
